Background to the Role

Due to the continued success of the business both in established and new marketplaces, HCI Systems are looking to recruit a Wiring Harness Technician to join the team and further assist the company in its growth plans. The wiring harness technician role will be expected to build wiring harnesses on a day-to-day basis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To build, from a detailed drawing, sealed system wiring harnesses in a production environment to a high quality and in a timely manner.
  • Prototyping on car and building first harness with minimal information to specify components for volume production builds
  • Defining of Crimp tooling per contact using Crimp Pull Tester to confirm against mil standards
  • Assembly of simple single crimp large diameter HV cables through to the high-pressure delivery of complex and challenging Formula One harnesses
  • Coordination of deliverables with colleagues
  • Manage own and if applicable team time to achieve harness delivery targets
  • Coordination with other departments, including quality and logistics, to ensure alignment on requirements and expectations
  • Liaising with Internal departments and with customer to integrate Wiring harness into vehicles, defining harness routings using best practice
  • Support Inspection as and when required (Holiday cover / Sickness etc)
  • Create new designs to internal / customer requirements if required
  • Make recommendations during builds to ensure best practice and HCI Codes of Practice are followed at all times

Who are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with at least three years in a technical environment, ideally within motorsport or automotive. You’ve completed an apprenticeship or hold a BTEC National Electrical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) and are qualified, or willing to work towards, IPC-A-620 and IPC-A-610. You’re skilled in using System 25 materials, contra-helical lay-ups, automated crimping press tools, and high-voltage cable preparation. You have experience building complex wiring harnesses to customer designs, can read drawings, and create bills of materials for prototype builds. With a strong customer and quality focus, you communicate well with both internal and external teams, work flexibly to meet deadlines, and follow Health, Safety and Environmental policies. Proactive and resilient, you overcome obstacles, work collaboratively, and bring a hands-on, can-do attitude to deliver excellent results.
