At Prodrive we believe there’s no limit to what can be achieved when the brightest minds come together. Joining one focused and driven team, you will challenge boundaries in order to change the game for our customers. Our Advanced Technology business is where we combine our pace and agility with free-thinking to deliver complex engineering solutions and specialist manufacturing programmes to the automotive, aerospace, marine, and defence sectors, accelerating the net zero journey for our customers.

Prodrive AT’s specialities are the design; development and production of smart actuation systems, particularly in the Active Aero and Intelligent Interior domains, as well as vehicle-level programmes. Current activity includes multiple automotive Active Aero and Intelligent Interior projects in the smart actuation domain; an L7e urban delivery vehicle and active torque dynamics for military applications at vehicle-level – as well as a variety of other mobility and low-carbon programmes including hydrogen storage and hydrogen fuel cell systems.

We are seeking a Modelling and Simulation Engineer to design and implement digital models and simulations of physical systems to inform and optimise the requirements; system architecture and detailed design of the products which Prodrive designs; develops and produces. The role will support the design implementation through to Verification & Validation physical test activities, where measured data is collated and processed to correlate the digital models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop digital models of physical systems, particularly for electro-mechanical or electro-hydraulic smart actuation systems in the Active Aero, Intelligent Interior or Vehicle Dynamics domains.
  • Use industry standard tools to execute simulations of these models, specifically with MATLAB Simulink and Simscape tools and Altair’s Hyperworks platform.
  • Support colleagues from the V&V and Design and Development teams to ensure DV and any other physical or digital testing is aligned with your simulation activities and will provide data to correlate your models.
  • Update and iterate models and simulations to support the development process – whether exploring alternative controls approaches; system architectures or to help analyse failure modes and effects.
  • Integrate closely with controls and software engineers to design and iterate suitable control strategies for relevant systems under development. Support commissioning, calibration, and testing activities by correlating real world data with simulations – typically using industry standard Vector tools such as CANoe and CANape.
  • Plan and execute modelling and simulation activities, forecasting resource requirements and task durations; contributing to risk tracking and monitoring and reporting on progress against schedule to appropriate stakeholders – whether internal or external.
  • Aid in business development activities, including proposals and project estimating.

Who are we looking for?

  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline or demonstrable equivalent work experience
  • Expertise in first-principal physics, particularly for electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic systems, and supporting mathematical skills
  • Experience of Mechanical/electrical/electronic/software system modelling and simulation, preferably in the Automotive domain
  • High proficiency in MATLAB toolchain – specifically Simulink and Simscape
  • Knowledge of Altair Hyperworks toolchain would be beneficial
  • Experience of drivecycle modelling and analysis would be an advantage
  • Awareness of full development lifecycle and role of modelling and simulation within it
  • Appreciation of the software lifecycle associated with implementing control strategies into real vehicles

What Can We Offer You?

  • An attractive salary which will grow in line with your ongoing development and impact
  • 25 days holiday (which increases with long service) with an opportunity to purchase up to 15 extra days
  • Training opportunities for continuing professional development
  • Onsite subsidised staff restaurant
  • Car and pension salary sacrifice schemes
  • Cyclescheme
  • Exercise classes
  • Paid time off for volunteering
  • Consultations with our Fit 4 Life expert
  • Social events throughout the year
  • Exclusive company discounts
  • Life assurance
